About Ryan

Ryan Black is a partner working out of DLA’s Vancouver office, where he is Global Lead of the Video Games practice. He has a particular focus on licensing and commercial contracts, ‎IP, IT, and ‎consumer-facing internet businesses. As ‎a former software developer, Ryan has unique insight to emerging tech ‎matters, such as cybersecurity, open source software, deepfakes, cloud computing, social media, and (if he has to) blockchain. And, as a true gaming lawyer, he’s been advising on AI issues before they were cool because video games and artificial intelligence are about as old as each other. When not lawyering, Ryan enjoys playing basketball or spending time ‎with his wife (Yolanda), daughter (Liara), twin brother (Tyler) and/or 150 TB game-‎streaming media server (New Gandalf).‎ His favourite games are the Mass Effect Series, Space Channel 5, Tetris Effect, Clair Obscur and Crypt of the Necrodancer.
