About Chris

Award-winning game designer Chris Bateman has been writing and designing games since the 16-bit era and has worked on over a hundred published games. His first project as lead designer and writer, Discworld Noir, earned praise from Terry Pratchett. He has worked on AAA franchises such as Sony’s MotorStorm, iconic brands like Pac Man, million selling licensed IP including Bratz and Aliens, and acclaimed indie titles like Timberborn and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.

In 1999, Chris founded International Hobo Ltd, a Develop Award–nominated consultancy that pioneered the integration of stories and game design and originated the term ‘narrative design.’ He received the IGDA MVP Award for establishing and leading the Game Writers Special Interest Group. A frequent international speaker, he has delivered over fifty talks across four continents, including keynotes at SB Games in Brazil and NASCOMM in India, plus multiple sessions at GDC, Develop:Brighton, GDC Europe, MIGS, and other major events.
